AberNecessities is a local, non-profit charity with the aim of supporting underprivileged families in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
We provide families with the essential items they need to care for their babies and children, helping alleviate the pressure of bringing up a young family with extremely limited resources.
These essentials include donations of nappies, wipes and toiletries along with new and nearly new equipment, clothes, shoes, bedding, cots and prams and to cover the gaps, we accept monetary donations to purchase items that are in short supply.
Who we work with
Families in need of support are identified to us through social workers, midwifes, health visitors, family support workers, community nurses and other charities who submit an application on behalf of the family.
We then aim to provide the family with all the essentials they need to support their young ones.
In addition to this, we provide emergency help within 24 hours to those in urgent need of baby formula and nappies.
Our response to COVID-19
With the ongoing situation in the UK regarding the Coronavirus pandemic, it is more important than ever that we protect our most vulnerable members of the community. Our core team are continuing to operate with safety protocols in place, which we will continually review based on government guidelines.
AberNecessities are now one of Aberdeen City Council’s emergency support groups and as such we continue to work tirelessly to get essentials such as baby formula, nappies, soap and toiletries out to those who need it the most.
We expect that demand for our support is only going to increase in the coming days and weeks as the crisis continues. As we try to replenish our stocks of these essential items, we have set up a Just Giving page where you can support us directly.
The Impact of our Work
The support and generosity of the people of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire has been tremendous to date and has allowed us to provide immediate, practical and sometimes life-changing help directly to over 4000 local children living in poverty, since our launch at the end of March 2019.
